How can you improve your Local Search Results and improve your visibility to potential customers?
SEO, three little letters that seem to strike fear into even the hardiest of business owners!
The concept itself seems to be surrounded by the same urban legends as witchcraft and sorcery and for many, it’s one of those jobs that always seems best to be dealt with by a professional. In part I would agree and having someone structure your website and content correctly will make a huge difference to its overall search performance. However, in my view the process doesn’t really end there.
Improve your local search results & rankings
I’m often asked what’s the best way to improve Search Results and Rankings and until this day, I’ve never managed to find a short explanation and the long version normally acts like a good bedtime story!
Like with most marketing techniques, there isn’t a silver bullet or one size fits all solution, it’s about adapting strategies over time.
With all that said, there are opportunities for you to increase your local presence, improve your businesses visibility and drive more traffic to your website or social pages without having to hire someone and better still, without costing you a penny.
Google My Business
In my opinion Google My Business is a massively overlooked part of the armoury. For small businesses especially, this is a great opportunity for you to showcase your services and compete on a level playing field.
5 Reasons to use Google My Business
- Boost your local profile
- Allow customers to leave reviews about your business
- Show up on map results
- Post marketing and product updates
- It’s FREE
In the first instance (if you haven’t done it already)
You will need to claim your business, the process is pretty straight forward, there is a verification process to make sure you are actually who you say you are and then the world is your oyster.
I always recommend making sure your business credentials are correct first, Name, Address and Phone Number (NAP), you then have the ability to add services, opening hours, appointment links, area coverage and much more. However, where you can really get some leverage and value is by utilising the posting functions.
Posting on GMB
Posting on Google My Business is a great way to promote your company’s products, services, special offers and news. With a choice of call to actions, you can create a journey for your customers to visit your website, give you a call, book an appointment or even buy online.
Keep it up to date
Like with any marketing funnels, there is the initial flurry of excitement in getting it set up, but I strongly advise that you keep it up to date and keep it relevant to your business. Make sure you add new services and new products as you launch them, remove information that is no longer current or valid and champion a great consumer experience. As your business changes, reflect those changes in Google My Business and start reaping the benefits and rewards of Local Search.
